St Piers awarded Healthy School status

St Piers School has been granted Healthy School Status following a detailed assessment of its approach to promoting a healthy lifestyle.

Headteacher June Atkins said: “I’d like to say a huge ‘well done and thank you’ to students, staff, parents, carers, leaders and Governors for all their efforts. They have continued to put a major effort in to making positive changes and should be proud that St Piers holds Healthy School status”.

A letter from Healthy Schools assessor Babcock 4S noted the following:

  • “The teaching and monitoring and evaluation of Personal, Social and Health Education and in particular how you have tailored this to the specific needs of your pupils.
  • The emphasis on regular physical activity and in particular how the Sensory Circuits prepare the students for the school day.
  • The prioritising of communication and ensuring that all students even those with severe difficulties can communicate effectively through a variety of means.
  • The excellent leadership and co-ordination of your healthy school by Alison Guthrie.”
